Geneva, May 12 (Konstantin Pribytkov).
The advanced technologies developed by Russian specialists for demining and mines destruction were offered by Russia to the Ottawa Convention participating countries. The reports on this problem were presented by the Russian delegation during the Geneva experts meeting ended this Friday.
Vladimir Korenkov, President of Board of Directors of the "Ecodem" Research and Production Association founded by the Russian Ammunition Agency and the Russian Ministry of Defense informed the ITAR-TASS correspondent that the problem demanded a prompt solution as far as the mines with the expired storage terms were concerned. "Ecodem" offers new ecologically friendly disposal technology for mines disarmament by the "cementation" method. It consists in injecting a special compound into the mine cavity which involves blocking their activation. It ensures their safety in transporting and makes them suitable for civil purposes - as explosives for the mining industry.
Mr. Korenkov stressed that this technology had proved less costly as compared to all other alternative technologies.
According to him Russian specialists are prepared to manufacture mobile systems for mines disarmament using this technology to meet the requirements of specific customers and specific mines stocks amounts.
The "Ecodem" specialists also introduced the Geneva meeting participants to the experience in demining accumulated in Russia. The recent methods make it possible to remotely detect mines on terrain with explosive type identification when using this technology. Explosive detection probability is 99,6%.
